loops & threads heavy duty snap tools

Threading tools, also referred to as threading dies, are employed to fabricate screw threads. This is materialized by cutting threads into the conducted work-piece, subsequently yielded by rotating. There are fundamentally three distinct types of dies – taper, plug and bottom. Of these, taper dies are the most popular choice and create the bulk of screw threads. For slightly larger diameter threads, plug dies are implemented whereas bottom dies yield even bigger diameter threads.

Whether it is a simple manual twist or an abrasive power tool used for detailed works, threading tools are all crafted from an array of materials. The most preferred base is high-speed steel, as it is perfect for standard operations. For prolonged use with really tough surfaces, carbide is the obvious choice. Finally, when it comes to higher temperatures, cobalt assumes the frontrunner position owing to its superior heat endurance.

The trinity of thread varieties encompasses:

The makings of your favorite screws, bolts, and nuts are composed of straight, parallel threads – the most common thread type.

As we continue along the journey of figuring out the various kinds of threads, we’re now presented with what are known as Taper Threads. These special threads feature a design that’s characterized by cog-like edges that gradually become increasingly narrow as you reach the end, rendering them an ideal choice for pipes and tapered screws alike.

For heavy-duty tasks like car axles and construction machinery, buttress threads offer a reliable, safe solution. Uniquely designed, these sturdy thread types consist of an angled face on one side, facilitating high intensity jobs.

Sourcing the right threading die for your project involves taking four pertinent elements into account. Firstly, you need to decide upon the type of thread. Secondly, what material are you threading? Thirdly, what is the diameter of the desired thread? And lastly, what is the required length?

With the correct die already selected, it’s time to arrange it within the lathe. Here, a die holder is used to secure it in the machine before the workpiece is placed inside the die and rotated. As this happens, the edges of the die begin to engrave threads into the material being processed.

After being severed, the thread should be inspected for precision. A thread gauge is used to assess its exactitude. This tool features a range of diversely sized holes and is placed over the thread. When the thread inserts snugly into one of the holes, the measurements are deemed accurate.

If you want to create threads with precision, then special dies are an absolute must. Different designs can be found depending on the application requirements, so some trial and error may be needed to find the best option. With a bit of practice, crafting perfect threads is an achievable goal.
